Village Codes information
About Village Codes
Village Codes is an independent Indian administrative-code reference website. Its purpose is simple: help people find a village or administrative LGD code and understand where that record sits in the available government hierarchy.
What you can find here
The directory covers States and Union Territories, districts, sub-districts, villages, development blocks and local bodies from the Local Government Directory data used for the site. Village pages can also show Census references, local-language names, village status, local-body relationships, block mappings and PIN codes when those fields are available.
Why the site exists
Administrative names often repeat, and different public datasets can use different identifiers. Village Codes keeps the LGD code prominent and places related identifiers in clearly labelled fields so that users can compare records without confusing one code system with another.
What Village Codes does not do
We do not create official codes, certify administrative boundaries, guess missing data or replace government records. Village Codes is not affiliated with the Government of India or any State, Union Territory or local authority.
How the directory is written
Page summaries are based on the actual facts available for each record. We prefer a short verified statement over a longer paragraph built from assumptions. See the Methodology and Editorial and Data Policy for more detail.
