Village Codes aims to make its public village-code directory usable by as many people as reasonably possible, including people who use keyboards, screen readers, zoom or other assistive technologies.

Accessibility measures

• Semantic headings and landmarks are used to organise pages.
• Forms and search controls have visible labels.
• Keyboard focus is visible on interactive controls.
• Navigation and buttons are designed with practical touch targets.
• Tables can scroll on narrow screens instead of forcing the whole page wider.
• Meaningful images use text alternatives, while decorative images are hidden from assistive technology.
• Motion is reduced when the user's device requests reduced motion.

Responsive access

The site is designed for mobile phones, tablets and desktop browsers. Text can be enlarged using browser zoom, and core directory information is available as normal HTML rather than requiring a complex application interface.

Known limitations

Some government names, abbreviations or long administrative labels come directly from the source data and may be difficult to read. Large tables can also require horizontal scrolling on small screens.
